vtAlpha Overview
vtAlpha is a cost-effective replacement for almost any HP Alpha system. It runs on modern COTS hardware and is hardware-compatible with the original Alpha, saving money on maintenance, power, cooling, etc.
vtAlpha runs directly on the host hardware (physical or virtual) without the need for an underlying operating system. This Bare Metal approach improves stability, reduces overhead, and simplifies administration. The following diagram illustrates how this works:
Your existing Alpha software is copied to the new host "as is" and runs unmodified - no re-compilation or re-linking is necessary. Thus, recertification of systems in regulated industries (e.g. financial, pharmaceutical) can be avoided.
Moving to vtAlpha is the simplest, quickest way to protect your investment in your existing OpenVMS or Tru64 applications.
